May 29, 2012 12:17pm

Bicyclist Brian Rosado of Charlotte was stuck by a driver on Central Ave that fled the scene.   The police report narrative describes Rosado changing lanes to avoid another cyclist in the intersection and getting hit by a speeding car while returning to the right lane.

Although determination of fault is the responsibility of the insurers and courts, this particular report makes the determination.  “The driver of the hit and run vehicle should have seen the bicyclists in front of them in the roadway and exercised caution.”

The only description of the vehicle included in the report is: 1998 Ford. Read more »

Harry Johnson Struck by Hit and Run Driver – He’s OK – Find the Driver

Posted in Bicycle Crime, Crash, Hit and Run - Help Find the Driver, Injury on March 19, 2012 by cltvelo

Monday March 19th.

Harry Johnson, ‘The Godfather of Charlotte Bicyclists’ was stuck by a sedan, maybe a Toyota or Honda on Selwyn Ave  at 6:30AM.    Harry suffered apparent injuries and refused medical treatment.   While it was dark and foggy, this was not a case of the driver not seeing the small group of illuminated bicyclists.  This drivers speed was impeded and his actions were deliberate and aggressive.   The driver illegally left the scene of the crash.  This is that section of Selwyn between Woodlawn and the Selwyn traffic circle.   Due to his location and aggression, it is very likely that the driver uses this road daily.  Every bicyclist needs to be  vigilant in this area.

Officer Lineberger produced the crash report.

I wish Harry a full and speedy recovery. Read more »

Queens Rd, Hit and Run

Posted in Crash, Hit and Run - Help Find the Driver, Injury on August 22, 2011 by cltvelo

August 7, 2011. 9am.  Justin, a bicyclist, visiting from Atlanta, was struck on Queens Rd.  He doesn’t remember the crash or exactly where on Queens Rd. he was struck. (the pushpin is approximate).  Justin races regularly and has a ton of riding experience.  It would be safe to assume that there was a motorist involved in this crash.  Motorists leaving the scene of bicycle crashes are commonplace in Charlotte now.  Justin was taken to CMC with obvious injuries that required stitches.  I wish Justin a full and speedy recovery.

If you know anything about this Sunday morning crash on Queens Rd on August 7th,  please call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. Read more »
