Robert Lee Baxter

Cyclist Robert Lee Baxter was killed while crossing Independence Blvd (I-74).  He was hit in the center lane by an outbound driver.   The accident occurred at 3pm on February 8, 2010.   Robert was taken to CMC with life threatening injuries and died during surgery.    My thoughts are with his family.

There are no pedestrian or cyclist facilities in the area to cross the expressway.

  1. A quick google search revealed some family in the area. They have my most sincere condolences.

When I first heard about the crash, I wondered if the cyclist was accidentally on Independence Blvd. I know I’ve accidentally found myself on Independence Blvd by going straight on Charlottetown Ave. in a car. There is no signage at Charlottetown Ave indicating the transition from street to highway. You can’t exit for 2 miles (Briar Creek); just beyond where the cyclist was hit. Independence is a dangerous road, it needs better signage at Charlottetown Ave.

  2. The top three places to cross Independence Blvd? 1) Pecan 2)Hawthorne 3)?
